The Hand Printed Monotype
July 11 @ 10:00 am - July 12 @ 5:00 pm
$375.00
Saturday-Sunday, July 11-12, 10 AM-5 PM
with Joyce Silverstone
Don’t have access to a printing press? Want to explore the options for printing by hand? Spend a weekend exploring the simple methods of transferring ink to paper through hand pressure and the touch of a tool. Subtle, direct mark-making is the pleasure of this printing technique, always full of expressive possibilities.
Through demonstrations and practice throughout each day, become fluent with inking methods, selecting papers for the process and working on dampened and dry papers. Learn simple registration systems which allow for printing multiple plates for color play and line variation. Practice transferring Akua Inks using a variety of tools, including pens, spoons, traditional barrens and an Akua pin press. Experiment with unconventional mark-makers to transfer ink to paper that allow hand work to create and influence the images.
No printmaking experience is needed, just a desire to slow down and enjoy taking in the world through touch. Participants will create some small series of related monotype prints.
