Stencils, Masks & Cutouts, Oh My!
July 17 @ 10:00 am - July 19 @ 5:00 pm
$560.00

Friday-Sunday, July 17-19, 10 AM-5 PM
with Annie Silverman
Masks, stencils and cut outs can add color and form to a print without the need for making additional plates or blocks! Explore additive printmaking with stencils, masks and cutouts. Possibilities can expand enormously when the basic techniques of creating stencils and masks by using simple tools are added to various relief and monotype printmaking practices. We’ll explore how these tools can add new life to your prints.
Using acetate, oil board, tetra pak, papers, scissors and X-acto knives participants will:
- make stencils to ink on and ink through onto various substrates
- cut masks to protect and cover up already printed elements  when more inking will occur
- create cut outs, which can be inked up and printed onto the surface of prints. With the use of thin wire and waxed linen, these objects can become moveable and be re-positioned in various ways
Workshop members should bring prints to work on that they consider unfinished or “needing something.” There will also be ample opportunity to make new prints using these techniques.
About the InstructorAnnie Silverman has been working with stencils, masks and cut outs in her printmaking practice for over 20 years. Her woodcut and mixed media prints often include unusual color and textural elements that she has created with these techniques.  As a mostly self -taught printmaker, Annie didn’t know that her methods were unusual.
