with Liz Chalfin
This workshop series is for printmakers who want to embark on an etching project with guidance from studio director and longtime etcher Liz Chalfin.
Participants will begin with an idea, sketch or photo that they want to realize as an etching on metal (copper, zinc or aluminum). Liz will advise and guide each project with recommendations and help in mastering different etching techniques including hard and soft ground drawing, texture transfers, aquatint, hand working plates, printing strategies, multiple plate printing, chine collé and more. Over the course of 4 sessions participants will gain a deeper understanding of safer etching practices and move their project towards completion. Beginners as well as more experienced etchers are welcome.
A $25 materials fee for incidentals like grounds, inks, mordants and cleaning supplies is included in the registration cost. Cost for additional plates and paper used by each participant will be calculated at the end of the workshop.
