Get ready to experiment with monotype! This weekly laboratory-style class is designed to spark your curiosity and challenge your practice. Beginners as well as experienced printmakers who are looking to refresh and revisit a particular technique are encouraged to attend.

The main purpose of this workshop will be to delve deeper into mark-making, drawing, drypoint, stencil making, printing from stencils, and color layering. Each day of the workshop begins with a demonstration of a printmaking technique and a focus on one aspect of monotype, followed by supported practice time with the materials. Participants will be encouraged to experiment, and apply these processes to their own individual print projects. Over the course of five weeks, participants will get to know the tools of the studio, the unique qualities of Akua Water-based Inks, and innovative monotype methods.

The real advantage to an on-going weekly class is the time between the sessions to practice. Participants can work with and absorb the information from each class at their own speed, then reunite with their peers and their instructor each week to share what they have discovered. This class is limited to 6 participants to ensure everyone has the time and support they need to explore to the fullest.

About the Instructor

Joyce Silverstone is a graduate and traveling fellow of The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. When Joyce leads her printmaking workshops, she brings her technical experience in printmaking and her training as a certified Rosen Method Bodywork Practitioner, a relational awareness practice. Joyce has been exploring and refining ways of combining printmaking and painting for over 30 years. An active artist and teacher, she exhibits her work locally, regionally and internationally.
