$35 materials fee includes plates, ink, and paper

In this in-depth class, you will learn all about printing with non-rag papers. We will explore the beauty and wonders of gampi, kozo, kitakata and other Asian, non-rag papers through different printing techniques, mounting applications and chine collé—the process of concurrently printing and mounting a thinner sheet of printing paper onto a thicker backing sheet.

You will learn how to cook and prepare wheat paste, mounting techniques, various chine collé applications, as well as techniques for collage and proper paper dampening, handling and printing.

The first day will be dedicated to demonstrations, while our second day will transition into an open studio environment where you will be able to test out what you have learned with one-on-one assistance from the instructor. These techniques are applicable over a wide range of printmaking techniques, so please bring plates (copper, zinc, photo-polymer, linocut, woodblock, monoprint matrices, etc) to class. We will provide a selection of papers, but please bring along any you would like to try (thin papers such as kozo, gampi, kitakata, and other non-rag or Asian papers). All inks are included.
