This 10-week workshop is designed for artists who want to deepen their woodcut practice, and explore techniques and approaches in depth.
In this series of classes, we will look closely at master woodcuts, and experiment with different ways of creating images, with the goal of expanding our woodcut vocabulary. Each two-week unit will focus in on one approach. Participants will have the opportunity to experiment with specific techniques and explore stylistic variations.
Topics will include:
- Creating texture and value with carving
- Working with woodgrain
- Direct drawing verses image transfer
- Approaches to color
- Woodcut and collage
- A review of tools, materials and practices will be woven in to the workshop.
This is not a beginners workshop – it is for artists with basic knowledge of woodcut.
