In this workshop we will investigate ways of fostering play and exploration beyond the normally rigid etching process. We will examine intuitive approaches that harness imperfections and chance, inserting randomness into the compositional process. We will showcase methods for pushing etching techniques away from their traditional applications to generate non-traditional results. In the process we will develop new strategies for mark making and tone and texture all while finding new ways to reuse, recycle, and repurpose discarded plates and older material. Join us for a weekend of intuition and play while taking etching to new places!
This workshop is open to artists with some basic knowledge of etching.
This workshop is presented as part of Zea Mays’ “Green to the Extreme” series in which we are focusing on ways to make art that recycles and up-cycles materials.
