We’re very excited to have Marnix Everaert here from Belgium to share his magical secrets about Aquatint.  Marnix was our Residency Fellowship Artist in 2015.  He’s coming back for another residency and will teach for two days during his time at Zea Mays.

Aquatint is one of the major techniques within intaglio and offers many possibilities to enrich your etchings. In this two-day workshop the participant will get demonstrations and time to practice the following: acrylic airbrush aquatint basics, the wax pencil resist method, spit-bite and the use of acrylics to produce tone on an aquatinted plate.

A refreshment of the aquatint basics is a good start for the wax pencil method which will use this kind of pencil as a stop-out. We will get a more painterly approach of aquatint in the spit-bite technique and with the use of acrylics on an aquatinted plate to get subtle tones from dark grays to even whites.  Focus is not especially on producing art but rather explore the possibilities of this techniques to use within your practice.
The workshop is open to everybody who has a background in intaglio and who knows the basics.
