The premise for this exhibition is a reinvestigation of the sense of intimacy required to look at small works of art. Printmaking, like many other modes of contemporary art, has tended to grow larger and larger as a way of keeping up with the scale of painting, sculpture, photography and multi-media installations. Bigger is sometimes better, but not always. The Sanford Gallery is an intimate space that allows the kind of quiet, contemplative interaction with small works that would be otherwise lost in larger and more riotous spaces.
