Fridays: September 11, 18, 25, October 2, 2020 – 12:00 to 2:00 PM (EST) via ZOOM
This is a live class working with the instruction via ZOOM. In this workshop we will learn how to carve and print a color reduction block, in which progressive layers of carving and color printing yield rich, vibrant prints. By cutting away more and more of the block in between each color printing, the previous colors are revealed as more wood is cut away from the surface. By the end of the process, the block is sometimes “reduced” to almost nothing.
All levels of printmakers are welcome. Basic image transfer, carving and registration techniques will be reviewed for newcomers to relief printing. Small class size (limited to 6) will allow for individualized attention, and time between meetings will allow participants to work on carving between classes.
