Margaret Merritt first studied intaglio printmaking at the Kalamazoo Institute of Art in the 1970’s and later learned Japanese hand paper making at the School of the MFA in Boston. She grew up Ohio and earned degrees from The College of Wooster and Cornell University. A chemist for more than 40 years, she retired from the Wellesley College faculty in 2002 to pursue full-time studio work in print and paper making. She has taught courses and workshops in the chemistry of artists’ materials as well as in printmaking and hand papermaking. She lives and works in Sandwich, New Hampshire and is a juried member of the League of NH Craftsmen and the NH Art Association.

“The phrase ‘images in paper’ encompasses all of my work. The fragility of paper reflects, I believe, the ephemeral quality of nature while the sharp lines of intaglio prints capture the strong patterns of the natural world.”
