Residency Dates: June 6-18, 2023
Application Deadline: December 1, 2022
Zea Mays Printmaking is offering a subsidized fellowship for a 2-week residency in our printmaking studio to one practicing printmaker or a pair of 2 collaborative printmakers. Applicants are strongly encouraged to demonstrate a commitment to Zea Mays Printmaking’s mission to research, practice and share safer and non-toxic printmaking processes.
We are looking for artists with experience in printmaking and a vision of a project to begin or continue at Zea Mays Printmaking in etching, photopolymer, screen printing, monotype, relief, letterpress, paper or polyester plate lithography or any combination of these media.
Our Residency Fellowship offers the artist(s) a private studio (the Annex) within the larger Zea Mays Printmaking facility. The Annex Studio has a 39.5″ x 72″ Takach etching press, large worktables, a sink and 24/7 access. Use of Zea Mays’ etching, photopolymer, screen printing, digital and letterpress facilities is available during open studio hours.
In addition, the Residency Fellowship includes four hours of private tutorial time with studio director Liz Chalfin. This time can be used to learn a new technique or a new approach to a familiar one, to discuss setting up a green print studio, or to get feedback on work in progress.
Residency artists are housed in our on-site 2nd floor apartment which includes a full kitchen, bath, sitting room and two private bedrooms.
