Gatesman’s current body of work explores the fundamental forces of static electricity, magnetism, and fluid dynamics. using a variety of printmaking techniques she makes these unseen physical forces visible and discovers a vocabulary of marks and shapes that are produced when these forces are manipulated. Primarily, Kim uses photopolymer processes, though not always in the traditional sense. Direct manipulation of the plate and hand-rendered transparencies comprise a great deal of her image and mark making.
Kim Gatesman received her BFA from UMass Dartmouth, and later, received her Masters in Arts Administration from Boston University. She currently lives in New Bedford, MA, and works as a printmaker for both Riverside Art in Somerset, MA and in her private studio, Third Switch Press in New Bedford.
