Bring your prints ( completed or in progress) and create a book arts project including different options and variations suitable for prints and printmaking papers!
During this innovative workshop participants will explore cover and page design, image and text relationships, and will address the possibilities and limitations of prints and printmaking paper in the book format reinventing the prints through collage, embossment, transparent layers, paper weaving, pop-up and more.
Participants will learn or refresh the basics of book making ( cutting and folding techniques, mounting, hinging and sawing ), and will practice cutting windows and inserts, pockets and foldouts, accordions and concertinas, envelopes and more.
Emphasis will be given to composition, print and page format and size, flow and rhythm throughout the book, color and working in series. In addition to demonstrations and hands on practice, the workshop will include time for sharing and feedback from the instructor and fellow participants.
This workshop is a refreshing and motivating journey revising prints and transforming them into new dimensions.
Some bookmaking experience is welcome.
Basic materials needed include:
- Bone folder
- Cutting materials and cutting surface
- Metal ruler and straight edge
- Paper ( prints, heavyweight, lightweight, colored, scrap paper)
- Binder’s thread and needles
