Zea Mays Printmaking presents Prints from across the Pond, a show featuring a multiplicity of works from across the pond. The prints on view are from three exhibition exchanges Zea Mays Printmaking did with printmaking studios in Cornwall, England, Trefeglwys, Wales and Galway, Ireland. These exchanges are part of a greater connection Zea Mays Printmaking is building with other non-toxic studios around the world and this exhibition is a unique opportunity to view the work of international artists working within them.
The prints from A4 printmaking studio in Cornwall, England are a selection of 30 prints curated by Pat King from hundreds of prints shown at A4’s Second Annual International Print Exhibition. The prints from Wales are from the Trefeglwys studio run by Andrew Baldwin, a professor at Aberystwyth University. Zea Mays artists exhibited work at the university gallery there in August 2011 and the University purchased three pieces for their permanent collection. The final third of the prints come from the Lorg Printmakers in Galway, Ireland a relatively new studio paving the way for non-toxic printmaking on the Island.
The prints on view include etchings, monoprints, screenprints, digital prints and relief prints. The works range from representational to abstract and are a lovely window into contemporary printmaking in the UK.
