July 14-17, 2022, 10 AM-5 PM

$450 non-members, $400 members, +$50 materials fee

Limited to 8 participants. Proof of Covid-19 vaccination required.

This intensive workshop will teach you to how to create screenprints using a versatile photographic exposure process. We will start with digital photos, scanned drawings, and drawings done directly on mylar and transform them into multilayered prints.

Participants will learn techniques for digital image preparation in Photoshop and then move on to making photo positives from oiled photocopies, printed transparencies, or drawings and paintings done directly on mylar. Once the images are ready, we will coat screens with light-sensitive emulsion and expose them in the darkroom to create stencils for printing. With screens in hand, we will move on to learn printing techniques and paper registration.

This workshop will allow participants to experiment with multiple techniques in the darkroom and also give ample time for printing. The first two days will be devoted to the technical side: image manipulation on and off the computer and learning the ins and outs of the darkroom. As you become comfortable preparing positives and exposing screens, there will be plenty of time to concentrate on composing layered images, printing techniques, and color mixing.

All levels of screenprinting experience are welcome! No computer experience necessary.
