What happens when you run a pastel drawing through an etching press? Magic! Images transform and soften as they are run through the press multiple times. In this workshop we will use pastel drawings as the basis for monotype prints. This is a versatile technique that is great for monotype, for applying areas of color to a print without opening messy cans of ink and for creating soft, subtle ghost prints. It yields vibrant color on its own, and can be combined with many other printmaking techniques such as Solarplate, collograph, copper etching, woodcut, etc. to create rich layered prints. This technique is simple and versatile. The studio environment is non-toxic, and water-soluble inks will be used. All levels of printmaking and drawing experience are welcome.
