This workshop will introduce participants to the Vandercook proof press and how to “make an impression” with it. The Vandercook 4 is new to Zea Mays Printmaking and will open up all kinds of possibilities for relief printing with images and text.
In this workshop, we’ll work with pre-made polymer plates to learn how to use the press. We’ll have a variety of playful images that participants can use to create fun and creative layered prints.
Letterpress and relief printing basics will be discussed and demonstrated, and participants will be instructed in the proper operation of the press. Attendees will learn how to position and lock up a form, ink the press and form, register and feed paper, and cycle the press to create a print. Safety, cleaning, and troubleshooting will also be covered.
While this workshop is beginner-friendly, people of all experience levels are welcome to attend, as more advanced topics can be discussed on request.
