Spit Bite with Airbrushed Acrylic Resist Aquatint

We began our research to better understand and perfect problems that arose in our original spit bite attempts in combination with Z-Acyrl hard ground emulsion. In previous tests etched areas of the plate lost the nuance of the aquatint and became areas of open biting. Our suspicion is that we are coating the plate with an incorrect amount of hard ground emulsion or we are using an incorrect Baume of Ferric to etch the plates. Aquatints were applied using a standard single action Paasche airbrush. The following experiments involved coating plates in variable spray densities, and exposing the plates to different mordant strengths. Included in our research is step-by-step photo documentation of our findings, hand drawn diagrams, and written observations of our results.
