Collagraph is a versatile plate-making process that offers a wide range of creative freedom in developing rich tones and dimensional surfaces within one’s prints. Working directly on to the printing plate with a variety of materials – acrylic mediums, fabrics, found objects, sandpaper, coffee grounds – this collage-like process invites spontaneity and experimentation.
The 3-day workshop will focus on exploring the endless textural possibilities of collagraphic image building. The course will discuss a variety of different materials and tools used in collagraph; basic intaglio and relief-inking techniques; additive as well as reductive plate building processes; paper selection, preparation and registration; and printing collagraph plates on the etching press.
No prior printmaking experience is required.
All skill levels welcome.
