Viscosity printing employs the principle that when different thickness and thinness of ink are rolled on top of each other, they resist each other. Akua Intaglio Inks and modifiers are well suited for viscosity experimentations, but these principles are easily applied to other intaglio inking systems.
Demonstrations will include viscosity printing techniques to generate spontaneous ink resists and color interactions, along with use of large rollers to create controlled surface rolls on our prints. We will explore how to arrive at a rich variety of mark making, and how to preserve and work toward creating space and light in your monotypes. Surface rolls can add depth and subtlety to any image regardless of the method of printmaking.
This workshop is open to beginners with no printmaking experience as well as experienced printmakers. It can also be used as an introduction or a re-fresher course for those familiar with monotype printmaking and how to work with Akua Intaglio Inks.
