Sliding Scale Fee:  $200-$450

During this 8-week workshop participants will have the opportunity to develop their individual accordion book arts project inspired by poetry or other writings. Zoom meetings will include presentations, hands-on demonstrations, group and one-on-one discussions.

First, participants will create three blank practice book structures: pamphlet, stab binding and folded book, and will be presented with variations.

Working in any printmaking medium of their choice, participants will be guided through all the creative stages of an artist’s book: source of inspiration, thumbnails, sketches, references, dummy book, page design, text and image composition, front and back cover design, printing and binding.

Text can be a poem, haiku or song; prints may be in any printmaking medium of your choice (relief, monotype, solar plates, lithography, etching, print collage, other). You are welcome to complete or modify existing prints, or create new ones to accompany the text. For those new to printmaking, a series of monotypes will be highly recommended, offering flexibility and limited studio equipment needed.  This workshop will include limited printmaking demonstrations, focusing more on book development and encouraging artists to print outside of class time.

Emphasis will be given to the concept, text and image interpretation, sequence and rhythm, color and paper choices, alternative materials, size and format, hands-on and digital media options, one-of-a-kind and home printed editions.

This workshop is open to anyone who has taken Prints and Poetry, or has a basic understanding of printmaking and book making.

No press necessary.
