Have you felt stuck, doubtful, worn down by Covid anxieties, or otherwise uninspired? Here’s a chance to shake off static habits, escape expectations, and simply have fun making marks!
Romare Bearden advised artists “to be something like a whale, swimming with (your) mouth wide open, absorbing everything until (you) have what (you) really need. When (you) find that, (you) can start to make limitations. And then (you) really begin to grow.” We’ll follow his advice by diving into experimental mark-making with monotype, trace monotype, simple relief printing, and large ink paintings with homemade tools. We’ll move through a series of material experiments and questions for reflection in our search for breakthroughs, engaging imagery, and finding what we really need.
In the second half of this 4-day intensive, you’ll choose parameters to shape a more focused exploration. This workshop is designed to refresh your art energy and provide some tools to take back to your own studio that help you to loosen up your process, distill your intentions, and amplify your expressive voice.
All workshop participants must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and be prepared to show proof of vaccination at the workshop. Mask wearing required.
