Finishing Touches: The Gallery Ready Print – video series

These two videos will instruct you in how to take your prints from the studio to the gallery!  Louise discusses papers and ink and demonstrates various methods for flattening, correcting print and paper mishaps and making your prints shine in their best possible light. Louise worked as a printer at Wingate Studio in New Hampshire, working with artists such as Walton Ford, Aaron Noble, Benny Andrews, and printing the work of Louise Bourgeois, among others.

Part 1: All About Paper: Flattening Prints, Paper Mishaps, Margins, and Bleeds
A brief discussion of different types of paper and how paper selection impacts our finished prints and instruction on flattening prints that are buckled, remedying scuffed paper fibers, and minimizing the appearance of paper creases. Guidance on determining paper margin size and ratio and instructions on various approaches to trimming margins and bleed prints. – 65 minutes

Part 2: All About Ink: Removing and Adding Ink
Demonstrations on how ink smudges and fingerprints can be minimized or removed. Learn when and how to add color back into your prints using various materials such as archival pens, colored pencil, watercolors, or printing ink. – 31 minutes
