Survey a rich history of women printmakers from an historical to a contemporary context. Through lectures, videos, podcasts, readings and online discussions, we will unpack the work of emerging, lesser known and established women identifying printmakers and how their contributions have affected the world of printmaking.
We will also pay significant attention to women-run printshops, residencies and ateliers as a way of connecting history with contemporary opportunities for women in the field of print. Special attention will also be paid to women artists focusing on Risograph work and independent publishing, plus post-digital women printmakers.
Artists, collectives, ateliers and printshops surveyed in this course will include, but will not be limited to: The Black Women of Print, artists from the Grosvenor School, Virginia Myers, Elizabeth Catlett, The Women’s Studio Workshop, The Women of Atelier 17, and Mixit Print Studios.
This course will require a PC or Mac computer or laptop with a steady, high-speed internet connection and a webcam, along with access to a Zoom account and Canvas for messaging, weekly lectures and discussion posts.
Limited to 6 participants
