Learn how to translate your photographs and drawings into painterly screenprints! Participants will create a multi-color or gradated print using a single screen painted by hand, with no need for computers or darkrooms. We will start with a photograph or tonal drawing and paint stencils directly onto the screen mesh to block out highlights, mid-tones, and shadows, ending up with a layered, painterly translation of the starting image.
This workshop will have in-depth demonstrations of printing techniques and setup, ink mixing, and paper registration — all the things you need to be able to print confidently at home. Participants should bring a photograph or drawing they would like to translate into a print. All levels of screenprinting experience are welcome!
We are grateful to Legion Paper for their partial sponsorship of this workshop.
