Relief Meets Intaglio Intensive

June 4 @ 8:00 am - June 8 @ 5:00 pm

$750.00

Tuesday-Saturday, June 4-8, 10 AM-5 PM

with Joyce Silverstone

This 5-day intensive workshop is an introduction to working with Sintra plates (PVC board), carving them with wood or linoleum tools and/or incising them with drypoint tools. The plates can be filled with lively combinations of carved imagery and incised lines that translate the texture and tones of a drawing tool. The imagery in this repeatable plate could be made into a small edition of prints. Open textural plates can also be fun to work with as a starting point for one-of-a-kind prints using multi-plate monotype printing methods to yield a beautiful monoprint series.

The first two days will be devoted to learning: making test plates and creating transfer drawings to guide the carving and incising on the plate. As you become comfortable with the possibilities of these plates and inking options, there will be plenty of time to concentrate on composing images, and playing between rolling relief and wiping intaglio to experience the fun variations of these versatile plates. We will be using Akua Intaglio Inks and modifiers, and exploring printing with the expressive possibilities of color.

The workshop is open to beginners with no printmaking experience as well as experienced printmakers. It can also be taken as a refresher course for those familiar with the process.

About the Instructor

Joyce Silverstone is a graduate and traveling fellow of The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Her current body of work and her workshop teaching centers around layered multiple plate printing using monotype inking methods.
