Create a hand-bound journal from your own prints! This two-session workshop, with a week in between each session, will lead you through the process start to finish, from creating soft block relief prints to designing and binding your journal.
The first session will be dedicated to soft block relief printmaking with a focus on preparing a drawing, transfer to the block, translate the drawing to a variety of marks, carving tips, inking the block, and printing. Imagery could be representational, abstract, a repeated pattern, or any other personal choice. Color inks and colored papers as well as other materials will be addressed.
In between sessions, participants will have the opportunity to complete carving and printing to be ready for the book making part of the workshop.
The second part of the workshop will focus on book making: a variety of pamphlet stich model books will be presented and practiced, before participants design their own journals including the prints. Prints could be part of the front and back cover design, and/or part of the journal.
Participants are welcome to use any inks of their choice. No press necessary. In addition to demonstrations and hands-on work, the workshop will include time for sharing and feedback from the instructor and fellow participants.
