Learn how to transform your photos and drawings into multilayered screen prints!
Participants will learn techniques for digital image preparation in Photoshop and then move on to making photo positives from oiled photocopies, printed transparencies, or drawings and paintings done directly on mylar. Once the images are ready, we will coat screens with light-sensitive emulsion and expose them in the darkroom to create stencils for printing. With screens in hand, we will move on to learn printing techniques and paper registration.
This workshop will allow participants to experiment with multiple techniques in the darkroom and refine their printing technique. The first day will be devoted to the technical side: image manipulation on and off the computer and learning the ins and outs of the darkroom. As you become comfortable preparing positives and exposing screens, we will focus on composing layered images, printing technique, and color mixing.
All levels of screenprinting experience are welcome! No computer experience necessary.
