One-Day Woodcut Intensive

February 7 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

$185.00

Saturday, February 7, 10 AM-5 PM

Registration Deadline: January 24

with Julie Lapping Rivera

Woodcut is a wonderfully direct and accessible form of printmaking, which yields a range of imagery from bold and simple to detailed and textural. The process of bringing an image to life through carving is both soothing and meditative. Because woodcut does not require a press, it is an excellent choice for a home practice.

In this one day intensive, we will carve and print an exploratory block from start to finish. We’ll learn everything we need to know to get started with a woodcut practice:

  • Block preparation
  • Placing the image on the block
  • Carving tool use and care
  • Registration
  • Printing with relief inks, both on and off the press

In addition to learning and refining techniques, we will share the aesthetic possibilities of woodcut, as we each explore our unique carving styles.

Newcomers and experienced printmakers are welcome!

We are grateful to McClain’s Printmaking Supplies for their generous partial sponsorship of this workshop.
