Design a pattern repeat from monoprints and send your designs out to be digitally printed on fabric!
All types of artwork can be used for textile design (both hand-done and digital) and made into repeating patterns. Today’s digital printing technology provides the opportunity to send your artwork to a digital textile printing service and have it printed. These services offer a variety of fabric types and short run fabric orders (as small as one yard).
In this class we will explore the creative elements of pattern, scale, repeat, texture, and color as they apply to textiles. We will also get an overview of the basic technical requirements for creating artwork for digital printing.
Students can then apply those concepts to creating their own textile designs using monotypes. Students can bring doodles, sketches, fabrics, photos, artwork… anything that inspires them. We will have time to test ideas, explore color palettes, and make prints. When students have selected their favorites prints, they can work on making that artwork into a Repeat Tile for printing.
Once we have our Repeat Tiles put together, Tina will scan one chosen design from each student and prepare files for digital printing at raspberrycreekfabrics.com. It is exciting to receive your artwork printed on fabric! Make something for your home or to wear. (The cost of the fabric order is not included in the price of the workshop.)
This workshop is recommended for artists with some previous monotype experience.
