Delve into color theory applied to monotype printmaking!
In this four-day intensive workshop, we will be printing on PETG plates that are thin, transparent plastic. PETG is thin enough to print well either face up or face down for easy registration and printing of multiple color plates. We will print with complimentary and analogous colors by employing subtractive monotype techniques, including the ins and outs of creating stencils and masks. We will explore adding surface rolls and veils of color to integrate and harmonize these printed colors. We will practice mixing beautiful neutral grays and earth tones to gain control and confidence while printing with a subtle range of values and color.
Akua Intaglio Inks are particularly well suited for exploring how to print subtle layers of color. These inks can also be modified with Akua Liquid Pigment to push and pull the vibrancy and opacity of color and create viscosity resists.
This workshop will provide exercises that will provide fundamental color information that will apply to any ink system you use, and stretch how you see color in the world. We will look at examples of prints and paintings by artists that use color at the core of their work.
This workshop is open to beginners with no printmaking experience as well as experienced printmakers. It can also be used as an introduction or a re-fresher course for those familiar with monotype printmaking and how to work with Akua Intaglio Inks.
