with Julie Lapping Rivera
Beyond beautiful black and white, color reduction and multiple block prints there is a world of possibilities for expanding our woodcut print vocabulary – layering and transparency, stencils and masks, wiping and manipulating inks on the block, introducing monoprint layers, collage, chine colle…
This woodcut intensive is designed for artists who have worked in woodcut and wish to deepen their practice and broaden their knowledge. Together we will explore what we know and do to learn with one another, sharing the many ways we’ve each evolved our unique practice. There will be demonstrations of techniques that might include carving, inking, stencils, chine colle, depending on the needs within the class.
Each artist is invited to come to the workshop with a project plan, and with the curiosity to potentially introduce new techniques. Your project might be one that is clearly defined, or a more open ended exploration of techniques. Prior to the workshop (by August 4th) artists will be asked to email Julie with a project plan/goals for our time together. We will all zoom together to meet one another and discuss our plans. The Zoom will take place Tuesday, August 5th at 3 PM EST.
