Harvesting Nature’s Colors: Discovering Plant Pigments
October 3 @ 8:00 am - October 4 @ 5:00 pm
$190.00 – $380.00
Saturday-Sunday, October 3-4, 10 AM-5 PM
with Tony(a) Lemos
Immerse yourself in the vibrant world of plant-based color during this hands-on, two-day workshop. You’ll explore the art of capturing nature’s colors through the creation of handmade plant pigments and heat press ecoprinting—an easy, mindful way to connect with the landscape and express your creativity.
Learn how to ethically forage and prepare plant materials to create your own sustainable inks and paints. Discover how to transform gathered leaves, flowers, and roots into a unique, personal color palette.
Using a heat press, you’ll experiment with eco-printing techniques that transfer the delicate hues and patterns of plants directly onto paper. Each print becomes a one-of-a-kind expression of place, season, and your relationship to the natural world.
You’ll also be introduced to the art of making lake pigments, often considered the holy grail for natural pigment hunters. In this process, you’ll learn how to extract color from plants and transform these vibrant, often fleeting dyes into stable, water-insoluble pigments that can last for generations. Discover how to take something as ephemeral as a flower, leaf, or fruit and alchemize it into a paint—preserving a moment in time and place in a form you can use again and again.
Throughout the workshop, you’ll also explore how working with plant pigments can deepen your understanding of ecological issues, including biodiversity and climate change.
