Gelatin Plate Printmaking via ZOOM
July 12, 2025 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
$175.00 – $325.00
Saturday, July 12, 9 AM – 4 PM
with Catherine Greenwood
Explore the potential of gelatin plates to create monoprints, image transfer and more! This flexible, re-usable material is excellent for direct impressions (think leaves and lace), creative mark making with non-traditional tools and color layering. The plates can be used over and over again by simply wiping off the surface and starting anew.
During this 1-day workshop participants will be introduced to the use of a gelatin-based printing plate as a matrix to explore a variety of different mark making and transfer techniques. Beginning printmakers will have fun making multi-layered images exploring texture and inventive mark making. More experienced artists will find ways to use gelatin plates to create chine colle materials, backgrounds and image transfers to incorporate into more developed work.
The workshop will begin with monochromatic, black and white image making and then move into color. A short walk to forage natural materials for use during the workshop will be encouraged and time will be made for breaks and foraging.
Students will be encouraged to work on their gelatin plates throughout the day and to get immediate feedback from the instructor and other workshop participants.
Materials to gather in advance of the workshop:
- Gelatin plate (or make your own)
- papers
- inks (Akua or other printmaking ink)
- baren or spoon
- misc. tools
A full supply list will be provided upon registration.
