Do you have a stash of treasured odds and ends — colorful printmaking scraps, vintage clippings, fabric samples — just waiting to tell a story? Join us in creating one of a kind collaged artists’ books using your upcycled materials.
The workshop will introduce you to collage and bookmaking practice, including composition, color, space, shape, texture, and value. We will be making two book formats – a hinged multi-panel accordion book and a folded book with wrapper. Detailed instructions will be provided so that students can make these books in larger or smaller sizes. Methods include hinging, collaging, cutting, pasting, folding, and layout.
We urge you to bring your own 2D odds and ends to transform into books. The instructor also will bring a variety of handmade paper remnants and print ephemera. Tools are provided but you are welcome to bring your favorites (e.g. exacto-knives, bone folders, scissors, etc.). This workshop will focus on imaginative ways to transform your favorite materials into new art. Accessible to artists and creators of all backgrounds and experience, you will be able to take what you learn and apply it at home.
