Adventure into making marks, textures and lines, while exploring ways of changing the surface of a PETG plastic plate with drypoint techniques and painterly collagraph additions. Teaching will highlight how to make and print a mixed drypoint/collagraph plate with time to practice intaglio wiping skills. The plastic plate plate opens up possibilities that are unlike working on metal or board.
We will start the day by making transfer drawings that will serve as guides as we launch into incising, scratching, and building-up the surface of the plates. There will be time on the first day to make test plates and practice printing them. Create a more intentional image to print in color and on chine colle papers on the second day.
Get to know the fundamentals of ink, paper and press use, along with the tools of the studio and the unique qualities of Akua Water-based Inks.
Joyce Silverstone is a graduate and traveling fellow of The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Her current body of work and her workshop teaching centers around layered multiple plate printing using monotype inking methods.
