Experience color theory by printing multi-layered relief plates. When layering color with multiple small carved and incised plastic plates, the overlaps and color vibrations begin to grow. Using Akua Intaglio Inks to achieve transparent layered color harmonies, we can develop a new sense of color-in-action — through interactions improvised between carved marks.
Monotypes and monoprints result from printing with repeatable carved plates interrupted with stencils and inking variations. Our substrates will be Sintra (PVC board) and Petg monotype plates.
What happens in the overlap of two complimentary colors? What does changing the saturation of a color do to the life of your print? We will have a “color laboratory” attitude toward these small experimental plates. Play while learning the theory behind the results!
Joyce Silverstone is a graduate and traveling fellow of The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Joyce is a core faculty member and mentor at Zea Mays Printmaking and teaches workshops throughout the region. Her current body of work and her workshop teaching centers around layered multiple plate printing using monotype inking methods.
