Spend a day in the Zea Mays Printmaking Studio exploring ways of transferring ink to paper from paper! Akua Intaglio Inks have a beautiful way of transferring color and marks to dampened paper that allows for building an image in surprising ways. Lines, shapes, stencils and edges all contribute to composing a monotype print. Learn a variety of ways to apply inks to paper, then employ these collage-like papers as the main substrate for the print.
We will start the day by making transfer drawings as a jumping off place and then use these drawings to inspire stencil shapes, and adding color. Learn to print from stencils to add textural forms, and create areas of color to monotype prints, while paying close attention to the mark, and the edges of the mask and stencil. Expect to make a series of monotype prints on the day of the workshop and to create a “family of shapes” that can be printed and reprinted after the workshop is done.
Joyce Silverstone is a graduate and traveling fellow of The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Her current body of work and her workshop teaching centers around layered multiple plate printing using monotype inking methods.
