Do you collect small objects or are loathe to throw away things that might have another use? Are you looking for something artistic and interesting to do with your collections? How about making them into artist’s books?
Learn how to make three-dimensional accordion-fold artists’ books with small inclusions in this start-to-finish workshop. Bring old prints or works on paper and a selection of small objects to transform into a sculptural book.
We’ll learn how to fold and score paper with extended spines (to leave room for 3D inclusions) and attach wood or board covers before adding 3D content (the opposite order of the way artists’ books are usually made). We’ll also discuss how to attach your inclusions to your book structures. Bring old prints, drawings or paintings on printmaking paper and whatever small objects you can gather or scavenge (with a diameter or thickness no wider than ½”). Bring your imagination as well; in 3D books, anything goes!
Students will be asked to bring old prints or works on paper and a selection of small objects no larger than ½” in thickness or diameter. Basic materials such as book board and adhesives will be supplied.
Limited to 8 participants
Registration includes a materials fee which covers plates, ink and paper. You will be notified if additional tools and supplies are needed.
