Elisa Lanzi is an artist and writer working at the intersection of printmaking and book arts. She draws inspiration from sojourns to the Mediterranean, the American West and New England; her work responds to motifs that span centuries and geography. These themes are explored in monotypes, artists’ books, collage, and handmade paper.
Raised in an artistic family, Elisa has created art through study and practice since her early years. As a member of Zea Mays Printmaking (since 2004), she is trained in multiple sustainable printmaking practices and earned the “Certificate in Green Printmaking, Intaglio.” She learned the art of hand papermaking at Trout Paper (Washington County, NY) and subsequently created works of paper there for many years.
Elisa teaches workshops and exhibits locally, nationally and internationally. Her work can be found in collections at the Book Art Museum (Łódź, Poland), Smith College Special Collections (Northampton, MA), Herman B. Wells Library at the University of Indiana, (Bloomington, IN), Hampshire College Library (Amherst, MA), Denver Public Library (Denver, CO), and the Zea Mays Printmaking Flat File.
Elisa earned a degree in English/Art History and a Masters in Library and Information Science from the State University of New York. In addition to her art-making practice, she had an earlier career as an arts information specialist in libraries and museums, including Smith College Libraries and The J. Paul Getty Trust Research Institute. Elisa grew up in an Italian-American family in Rochester, NY and currently lives in western Massachusetts.
