This workshop is designed for those new to photopolymer printmaking and is equally appropriate for those with photopolymer printmaking experience.
We’ll be focusing first on the technical process of making high quality, tonally sensitive photopolymer plates and prints, but we won’t be stopping there. On Friday evening you’ll make two simple tonal plates to print on top of each other; you’ll learn how different colors interact with each other when layered and how adjusting the viscosity of the ink, and removing some ink in key areas, can create very different printed effects. You’ll then take what you’ve learned in that straightforward investigation and apply it to your own layered images—working larger, exploring color and space in your multi-plate prints, and experimenting with viscosity and painterly approaches to transform your images in the final prints. Various registration methods will be introduced throughout the workshop to give you the opportunity to discover what method works best for you.
