During this workshop we will delve into color theory for printmaking and applied to both carved and monotype plates. Akua Intaglio Inks are particularly well suited for exploring how to print subtle layers of color. We will carve and incise several plastic substrates, first working small and spontaneously with mix and match sizes that can be rolled for relief printing and altered with monotype inking techniques. With several carved plates and a monotype plate layered together with stencils, the possibilities are endless. We will print with complimentary and analogous colors by employing subtractive monotype techniques, and adding surface rolls to integrate and harmonize these printed colors. We will practice mixing beautiful neutral grays and earth tones to gain control and confidence while printing with color.
This workshop is open to beginners with no printmaking experience as well as experienced printmakers. It can also be used as an introduction or a re-fresher course for those familiar with monotype printmaking and how to work with Akua Intaglio Inks.
