In this newly developed workshop, participants will utilize the techniques of traditional mokuhanga — brushing waterborne pigments onto wooden blocks and taking an impression with a hand-held baren — in a more improvisational and spontaneous way than is usually done.  Experimenting with both carved and uncarved blocks, masks, stencils, and various types of brushes, participants will have the opportunity to discover fresh and contemporary ways of using this ancient method.
