Spend a week creating a multiple-plate color etching and seeing it through from start to finish! In this Advanced Etching workshops, artists will conceive of a print from day 1 and work with the instructor to map out a plan to create a finished print and begin an edition. Students will work in Zea Mays Printmaking’s etching studio and facilities and will have access to the following techniques: BIG hard ground and soft ground, BIG sandpaper aquatint, soywax soft ground, acrylic aquatints and stop outs, lift grounds, step etching and spit bite, and other experimental etching techniques. A wide range of color inks and papers will be available to allow for work with a la poupee, chine colle, and exciting color and printing possibilities. Access to the print dryer at the end of the workshop will culminate alongside demonstrations on trimming and curating of prints. Demonstrations and individual one-on-one instruction and consultation will be offered. Handouts will be provided. Some etching experience required.
This is a great workshop for people who have some etching experience and want to create a fully resolved color etching with support of a master technician.
