Abstract: Finding a replacement for solvents used in monotype to create fluid textures, reticulated tones, and marks. This test is to make sure that the different pigments within Akua inks react similarly to the Akua Mars Black in Test 7.

Procedure:
We began with Akua Lamp Black (Test9A) and then tested Carbon Black (Test 9B) and rolled out two plates for testing. One plate we tested with “1:1” neutralizer (1cup water to 1 tbs washing soda), and one plate we tested with just plain water. We continued the experiment similar to Test 7 to test if they could react similarly. We sprayed each plate with proper solution and waited 5 min before blow drying the plate.

Akua Carbon Black

Conclusion:

Each type of Akua black ink reacted differently to the washing soda and water mixture. Mars Black gave the best reaction by moving and reticulating across the plate in different marks, textures, and tones. Lamp black tuned out to be the worst to use with the washing soda and gave little information once printed. Carbon black works but is no comparison to Mars Black.
