Contract Printing and Editioning

Zea Mays Printmaking provides hand-pulled editioning services to Artists and Publishers of fine art prints. We also offer plate production for artists who wish to make their own editions.

Our contract printing and editioning services are unique in that we cater to artists and publishers who are interested in creating prints in ways that are non-toxic for the printers and the environment while maintaining the highest aesthetic standards.

Services

Photopolymer Intaglio: including etched copper photoplates, polymer plates;

Photographic monoprint plates on plastic, metal or wood, and steel backed photopolymer intglio and relief plates;

Intaglio: etching, aquatint, spit bite, lift and wash grounds using acrylic and water-based products;

Relief Printing: Linocut, Woodcut, and Collagraph;

Monoprinting: monotype and monoprint with an expertise in Akua Kolor waterbased inks;

Mixed Media: conbining all of the above, plus the marriage of digital and hand-pulled prints.


Facilities

Climate controlled studio in historic mill building in bucolic New England setting;

32"x60" Takach-Garfield etching press, 24"x34" Praga etching press, Relief press;

UV exposure unit with 40"x50" Vacuum Frame.


Printing Staff

Liz Chalfin, founder and master printer at Zea Mays Printmaking trained at California State Universities at Fullerton and Long Beach receiving a BA and MFA in printmaking. She taught printmaking at Whittier College for nine years before moving to the Northeast to establish Zea Mays Printmaking. Her extensive research into safer and non-toxic printmaking has made her one of the leaders in the field.

Assistant printers often include student interns from local colleges.
