This is an advanced level Intaglio course with an emphasis on aquatint and step etching. This course is designed for students with prior etching experience and who aim to take their aquatints to another level through the use of subtle tonal variation. Unique tools and processes such as paint markers, steel wool, burnishers and selective etching will be used to create a range of textures and light sources, from subtle to sharp.
The course will begin with plate preparation and a thorough demonstration of how to use the airbrush with the Zea Mays Printmaking acrylic aquatint medium. Participants will be encouraged to take their etchings to a fully finished level with a wide range of tone. Over the course of four weeks students will acquire an expansive knowledge of the art form and leave with fully rendered etchings.
