Gain competence in acrylic aquatint using the studio’s very own Zea Mays Printmaking Acrylic Aquatint Solution and an airbrush.
The technique of aquatint provides a means of etching tonal values and washes in intaglio. In this class, you will be introduced to a non-toxic airbrush technique that can provide a range of possibilities for traditional and non-conventional aquatints.
You will learn all about aquatints including how to use an airbrush with the aquatint spray. We will play with the spray to produce tonal shifts and textures and with stencils to define shape and vary edge quality.
Demonstrations include various approaches to timed etches, step-etching and spit bite washes. You will learn to create rich tones and contrast, as well as tonal range in your imagery. You will come away with competence in the technique, some test prints and instructional handouts. There will also be time to embark on your own image using the techniques learned in class.
Copper plates, paper and all ink included.
